How We Test

Why Our Review Process Exists

Most local SEO tool reviews are written by people who have never ranked a map listing in their lives. They read the sales page. They copy the features. They publish the post.

We refuse to play that game. At GMB Click-Through Rank, our review process exists to separate the signal from the noise. We spend our own money on these tools. We connect them to real Google Business Profiles. We measure actual map pack movement.

Real profiles. Real traffic. Real rank changes.

How We Select What To Cover

Our team ignores the hype. A new CTR bot launches every week promising instant number-one rankings. We ignore 90 percent of them.

We select tools based on specific operational needs. We look for residential IP quality, mobile emulation accuracy, and localized search behavior. If a tool relies on cheap data center proxies, we skip it entirely.

We only test software that attempts to mimic genuine human behavior.

Our Evaluation Criteria

Testing requires granularity. We don’t just look at the dashboard and call it a day. We track the friction of setting up campaigns. We monitor the drop-off rate of generated clicks. We measure the exact ratio of profile views to driving directions.

We run GMB Everywhere alongside the test tool to audit category impact. We check Google Search Console to see if the traffic actually registers. We measure suspension risks carefully. A tool that gets a profile suspended fails instantly.

We track the timeline from campaign launch to actual grid movement in Places Scout. If the grid doesn’t turn green, the tool doesn’t get a recommendation.

The Time Investment

SEO takes time. Fake engagement filters catch lazy traffic within days. We commit a minimum of 45 days to every CTR tool we test.

The first 14 days reveal the setup friction. The next 30 days expose the retention rate of the engagement signals. We watch closely to see if Google strips away the generated reviews or driving requests.

You can’t review a local ranking tool in a weekend.

Trial periods are useless for real data. We pay for the first full month out of pocket. We watch the metrics settle. Only then do we write a single word.

What We Do Not Review

Certain tactics carry too much risk for legitimate businesses. We don’t review mass review-generation bots. We don’t test automated profile creation scripts.

We decline coverage on any service selling bulk data center traffic. That traffic is a massive blind spot for amateurs. Google filters it out before you even refresh your analytics dashboard. We only cover engagement optimization that moves the needle safely.

The People Doing The Testing

My name is Jay Flores. I build profitable local search campaigns for B2B SaaS companies and local founders. Theory isn’t allowed here.

I operate in the trenches of local SEO daily. I’ve watched profiles tank from bad proxy networks. I’ve recovered listings penalized by sloppy CTR manipulation. Every tool reviewed on this site passes through my personal workflow first.

I test the software. I analyze the data. I write the verdict.

How Reviews Are Updated

Google updates its local algorithm constantly. A tool that works perfectly in January often breaks by July. We revisit our top-rated tools every 90 days.

We run a fresh 14-day test campaign to verify IP integrity. If a tool stops working, we update the review immediately. We strip its recommendation status. We tell you exactly why it failed.
